Roy Lichtenstein | Landscape Mobile

Roy Lichtenstein
Landscape Mobile
Limoges, France/New York City, USA: Artes Magnus/Bernardaud, 1991
56 × 14 × 66 cm.
Edition of 125 signed and dated copies

Despite the title invoking Alexander Calder’s mobiles, this work is a narrow, non-kinetic sculpture. The clouds, rain and the bright yellow sun are fixed against the landscape. Lichtenstein coined the term "stabile" to describe the work. The porcelain with painted bronze sculpture sits atop a pedestal and can be viewed  from both sides.

At a 2014 Sotheby's auction the work sold for $43,750 US, against an estimate of $14,000 to $18,000  US.
